Actor Jason Momoa recently reunited with his high school girlfriend in his Iowa hometown.
The “Aquaman” star was back in his hometown of Norwalk, which is a part of the metropolitan Des Moines area, to promote his new Meili Vodka.
While there, The Des Moines Register reports Momoa reconnected with Lindsey Aaron at an area grocery store.
Aside from Momoa’s roles on the big screen, Aaron hadn’t seen her high school boyfriend since 1998.
“Seeing him on screen, it’s comforting,” Aaron told the Register. “He worked hard all through high school.”
Aaron and Momoa met while they were students at Norwalk High School in the late 1990s.
While in high school, Momoa was a jock who played soccer. During his junior year, he asked Aaron out on a date.
Aaron told the Register she originally declined Momoa’s courtship. She said she thought he was cocky and “a little bit of a womanizer.”
That answer wasn’t good enough for Momoa at the time, and he enlisted a mutual friend to ask Aaron to give him a chance.
Aaron said she changed her mind, and the two started dating. During their relationship, Aaron said she learned that Momoa was actually a “truly down-to-earth guy,” and the couple spent their time playing sports, watching TV shows, and hanging out together at the lake.
The two would go their separate ways after Momoa graduated in 1997 and moved to Colorado.
Momoa would return in the summer of 1998 and would ask Aaron if she wanted to rekindle the relationship, but Aaron had another boyfriend by then.
The two wouldn’t see each other again until this year.
On Oct. 16, Aaron was one out of the hundreds of people who waited in line for a chance to meet and greet the actor.
When they saw each other again for the first time in 25 years, the Register reports the two reminisced over their time together, and Momoa told her he had gone through old photos in a photo album at his mother’s house in Norwalk.
Although the two have separate lives and families now, they said they hope the next reunion will be sooner than another 25 years from now.
