American tennis great Serena Williams recently retired from professional tennis. One of the major reasons behind her decision was to spend more time with her five-year-old daughter, Olympia. In the past few years, Serena had been having a hard time managing her career and the responsibilities that come with having a family. The frequent injuries also added to her problems. However, the 41-year-old still had the motivation and carried on.
Earlier this year, the legend appeared for an interview. She discussed a variety of things related to her injuries, career, and her personal life. The 41-year-old also revealed how her daughter Olympia changed the way she operates.
Serena wanted to be a strict mother
Talking about her daughter, Serena revealed that she always wanted to be a strict mother. However, she ended up becoming more lenient and patient as a parent. Here’s what she said.
“Olympia has a great sense of humor. If you tell her to draw a bunny, she’ll draw a chicken instead, and she knows she’s making a joke. She loves to laugh. I thought I was going to be really strict, but so far I’m the more lenient parent.”
Serena further added, “This kid has me under her finger. I didn’t know what kind of mom I’d be, and I still don’t know. Instead, maybe for the first time in my life, I’m just being.”
Serena has managed her numerous careers and the responsibilities of motherhood simultaneously. Now that the racket’s hung, the legend will like to focus more on parenting.
Serena Williams’ self-care regime
Serena Williams has multitasked for a long time and still has her business interests to take care of. Apart from that, the 41-year-old also takes care of her daughter. Amidst all these, the legend believes that it is important to take out time for self-care. In the past few years, the stress on mental health is more and Serena also found a way to relieve her stress.
Serena allegedly has a unique way of doing it. The 23-time Grand Slam champion sits alongside her daughter Olympia to play video games. Serena has left tennis and is now spending more time with her daughter. It not only helps the 41-year-old in relieving her stress but also allows her to spend some quality time with Olympia.
