Boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the most iconic athletes of all time. And there is no denying that with his superstardom and his net worth, he is capable of fulfilling most of his dreams. However, there is one dream that Mayweather has been unable to fulfill, to fight at the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel.
The helipad of the iconic hotel has become synonymous with sports promotions. But, Mayweather‘s dream of fighting at the iconic venue has remained incomplete.
Meanwhile, a few notable names from the sporting world were able to perform at the hotel.
Burj Al Arab hosted golf legend, Tiger Woods, ahead of his performance at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in 2004. Woods was seen skillfully hitting a few shots from the helipad of the hotel.
Tennis stars Roger Federer and Andre Agassi also played at the helipad to promote the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships in 2005. Moreover, the duo engaged in a friendly game that lasted 20 minutes.
The iconic helipad has also been a host to Formula One’s formidable beasts as well. In 2013, David Coulthard, representing Red Bull Racing performed donuts at the venue to celebrate their fourth consecutive title win.
In fact, the boxing world also had due representation at the venue. Former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua also put on his gloves and entered a makeshift ring at the helipad in 2017. Moreover, he went on to have an intense training session 321 meters in the air.
Floyd Mayweather Jr’s potential showdown at the Burj Al Arab Hotel
Floyd Mayweather Jr was scheduled to have a comeback exhibition bout atop the Burj Al Arab hotel. Additionally, he set to face his former sparring partner Don Moore.
Meanwhile, the event also featured many notable names like Anderson Silva, Badou Jack, and Delfine Persoon. However, the event had to be postponed due to the death of UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed. The fight later took place in Abu Dhabi.
